Hoplarchus Psittacus M
Hoplarchus psittacus is a large and impressive freshwater fish, belonging to the Cichlidae family, and native to tropical South America, mainly from the Amazon and Orinoco rivers (in parts of Brazil, Colombia and Venezuela).
Common name: Parrot Cichlid, due to the shape and colors of its face, which resemble a parrot.
Size: It reaches 30–35 cm in length when adult.
Body: Strong, muscular and broad, with pronounced head and mouth features.
Color: Its body is mainly olive-green to bronze, with metallic reflections. The head shows red, blue and purple shades, especially in mature males. The fins often have black spots or colored stripes.
Patterns: Some individuals display dark vertical stripes or black spots on their bodies, especially when stressed or during breeding season.

Diet: Omnivorous. It feeds on worms, crustaceans, insects, plant materials, but also on commercial foods (pellets, sticks, frozen foods).
