Brachionus plicatilis is a rotifer (a microscopic zooplanktonic organism) and is used extensively in fish farming and the aquarium hobby as a live starter food for very small fish and fry that cannot even consume brine shrimp.
Ideal for:
Frequent fry that are too small to eat brine shrimp (e.g. killifish, rainbowfish, some tetras, marine species).
Coral & filter-feeding organisms in reef tanks.
Nutritional value:

Description:
Organism: Rotifer (tiny multicellular animal).
Size: ~100–250 μm (0.1–0.25 mm) > ideal for newborn fish and marine organisms.
Movement: Swims slowly with "wheel-shaped" cilia around its mouth.
Diet: Feeds on microalgae (e.g. Nannochloropsis, Chlorella).
Vital role: Most often used in marine hatcheries (clownfish, seahorses, reef fry), but also in freshwater for extremely small fry.
Brachionus plicatilis is:
Essential microscopic food for newborn fry that cannot be fed with artemia.
Not useful for large fish, mainly concerns fry & reef farming.
