The Peacock Gudgeon, also known as the New Guinea Gladiator, is a small, peaceful and extremely beautiful freshwater fish, ideal for community aquariums. It belongs to the Eleotridae family and is native to Papua New Guinea.
Origin:
It is endemic to the streams, lakes and rivers of Papua New Guinea, in areas with calm waters and rich vegetation.
Behavior:
A peaceful and social species.
Ideal for community aquariums with small, non-aggressive fish.
It behaves well in groups of 1 male with 2–3 females.

Morphology:
Size: Up to 7–8 cm (usually 5–6 cm)
Colors: Body light blue with bright pink/red stripes and spots. The tail has a black round "eye" (ocellus), from which its scientific name comes.
Gender Difference:
Males have more intense colors and a slightly larger body with a rounded forehead.
Females are smaller and have a bright yellow belly (especially during the spawning period).
Aquarium Requirements:
Minimum size: 40–60 liters for a harem.
Temperature: 22–26°C
pH: 6.5–7.5
GH: 5–12 dGH
It prefers calm water, well-planted aquariums, with hiding places (caves, pipes, roots).
Friendly symbiosis with species such as rasboras, small tetras, Corydoras, shrimp.
Diet:
Omnivorous: Accepts flakes, micro pellets, live and frozen foods (brine, daphnia, bloodworms).
Reproduction:
The male guards the eggs in caves or PVC pipes.
After hatching (5–7 days), the fry can be fed infusoria or newly hatched brine shrimp.
Reproduction is easy, if the right conditions are met.
