The Electric Blue Acara is a farmed, color variant of the Andinoacara pulcher species, native to northern South America (Trinidad, Venezuela, Colombia). The “Electric Blue” form does not exist in nature; it comes from selective breeding.
Appearance:
Striking bright electric blue body.
Rare traces of black streaks (more subtle than the wild type).
Larger fins and a smoother overall appearance compared to the wild pulcher.
Males usually grow a little larger and have more pointed dorsal/caudal fins.
Behavior:
Considered one of the most peaceful medium-sized cichlids.
Often coexists with other peaceful fish.
Becomes more territorial during the mating season.
Intelligent, recognizes its caregivers, eats easily and adapts.
Diet: It is omnivorous with a tendency towards carnivory.
It accepts very easily:
Quality pellet food for cichlids
Frozen (krill, mysis, artemia, bloodworms)
Live food
Occasional vegetables (spinach, peas)
For proper coloring: foods with astaxanthin and spirulina.
The Electric Blue Acara is one of the most social medium-sized cichlids.
Suitable housemates: Severum (in several liters), Geophagus (peaceful species), Pleco (Bristlenose), Corydoras (stable pH, not too warm water)
Unsuitable housemates: Convict cichlid, Jack Dempsey, Flowerhorn, Texas cichlid, Large or very aggressive cichlids  ...More
