This Indian stem plant is one of the most colorful aquarium plants for the background. The species macrandra is very variable in leaf size and its coloration is similar to the Rotala type rotundifolia. The stems in a group should be put a little distance away from each other because the plant is very light-needy. For intensive red coloration, sufficient iron fertilization and CO2 fertilization are very important. The shoots that grow to the surface of the water are particularly colorful - here you can see the very high light requirement. Rotala macrandra is often used in aquascaping as a color highlight.
