Stoffels Taxiphyllum Sp. Flame Moss In Vitro
Taxiphyllum sp. ‘Flame’ (also known as Flame Moss) is a unique and decorative species of moss, with a characteristic vertical, “spiral” growth that resembles flames — hence its name.
The in vitro form means that it comes free of snails, algae and parasites, ideal for clean and safe introduction into the aquarium.
Growth form: The shoots grow vertically and slightly twisted, creating “columns” that resemble green flames.
Size: Usually reaches 10–15 cm in height.
Color: Deep green, more intense in good conditions.
Growth rate: Slow to moderate.
Use: Tied to wood, stones or decorations to create a natural aquascape.
Not planted in the substrate – must be tied with thin fishing line or thread to wood/stone until the roots-rhizomes take hold.
It needs periodic pruning to maintain the “fiery” shape and not to thicken excessively.
Very resistant to a wide range of conditions, even in aquariums with fish that disturb other plants.

Temperature: 20–28 °C (can withstand lower temperatures, up to ~15 °C)
pH: 5.5–7.5
GH: 1–10 °dGH
Lighting: Low to moderate (does not need much light)
CO2: Not necessary, but enhances growth
Water flow: Gentle to moderate (flow helps prevent dirt and algae from getting caught)
Flame Moss is ideal for aquariums with large predatory fish (e.g. Cichla, Arowana, Hydrocynus) because it does not uproot – you can place pieces tied to heavy rocks and it will stay in place.
