Juwel BioPlus fine XL
Juwel BioPlus Fine XL is a sponge filter media from the Juwel Bioflow / BioPlus filter series, with very fine pores (“fine”), with dimensions of 15 x 15 x 5 cm. This is a fine-pored sponge from Juwel, designed to have smaller pores than other “coarse” sponges (larger pores). It is manufactured without the use of chemicals that leave residues. It is suitable for use in salt (and/or) fresh water. The “XL” size means that it is a large sponge, suitable for larger aquariums / larger filters from the Bioflow series, e.g. Rio 450 LED, Vision 450 LED, Trigon 350.
Biological filtration:
Due to its fine structure with many small pores, it provides a large surface area for the growth of bacterial populations that metabolize (convert) ammonium > nitrite > nitrate. Especially its location in parts of the filter where there is less flow or less oxygen helps the growth of bacteria that “work” under more anaerobic conditions.
Mechanical filtration / water clarification:
It captures and retains small suspended particles that are not “held” by coarser filters or pre-filters, helping to make the water cleaner and clearer.

The sponge is placed in the lower part of the filter (below the coarse filters) to function as a final filter before the water is released into the aquarium.
Before use, it is a good idea to rinse it with aquarium water (not chlorinated water) to remove production residues or dust.
It should be cleaned slightly at regular intervals so that it does not block, but not excessively, because excessive cleanliness eliminates bacteria
Change: its lifespan depends on use. It is generally recommended to change it every 3-9 months to maintain effectiveness, when it has worn out or has lost its flexibility/pores.
