Family: Poeciliidae
Origin: Venezuela, Trinidad, Barbados, Guyana (has spread worldwide due to breeding)
Size: 4–6 cm (females larger than males)
Lifespan: 2–3 years
Appearance characteristics:
Fuller body compared to males
Tail usually shorter and less brightly colored
Belly more bloated, especially when pregnant (almost always in mixed aquariums)
They do not have a gonopodium.
Aquarium conditions
Aquarium size: From 40 liters for a small group (better 60+ liters)
Temperature: 22–28°C (ideally around 25–26°C)
pH: 6.8–8.0
GH: 8–20°dGH (they prefer harder water)
Plants & decoration: Densely planted areas for the little ones to hide, but also open space for swimming
Water flow: Gentle to moderate
